Return to the Family list

Halalaimus climactericus (Wieser 1952)

This individual was collected at CIMAR24 station 77 at a depth of 212 m at the mouth of the Aysen Fjord, Aysen region. This is a female specimen which matches the description given by Wieser (1952).

Halalaimus comatus (Wieser 1952)

This individual was collected at CIMAR24 station Polygon 2B at a depth of 1020 m on the slope of the continental shelf, Los Lagos region. Wieser only had 3 female specimens with which to describe the species. This individual is male, I am placing it as H. comatus because the anterior end matches the description, particularly the very narrow slit-like amphids. The tail is a little distinct from the female description, it is conical for the first 40% of its length, tapering rapidly to filiform for the remaining 60%, and has no swollen tip.

Halalaimus sp.1.

This individual was collected at CIMAR24 station Polygon 1B at a depth of 1917 m on the slope of the continental shelf, Los Lagos region. This female specimen is distinct from H. comatus (Wieser 1952), the tapered anterior end is much longer and thinner, the cephalic setae are are in two distinct rings, and the slit-like amphid appears to run the length of the body, terminating past the anus, where the conical tail narrows to become filiform. The filiform portion of the tail accounts for about two thirds of its total length and terminates in a slightly swollen tip.

Litinium sp.1.

This individual was collected at CIMAR24 station 77 at a depth of 212 m at the mouth of the Aysen Fjord, Aysen region. This female specimen was difficult to identify as the amphids are not clearly visible. I will place it in the genera Litinium on the basis of the tail shape, which is short and rounded like most of the species in this genera and distinct from Oxystomina.

Oxystomina miranda

Oxystomina pellucida

Oxystomina vespertillo

Paroxystomina micoletzkyi

Thalassoalaimus macrosmaticus (Wieser 1953)

This individual was collected at CIMAR24 station 77 at a depth of 212 m at the mouth of the Aysen Fjord, Aysen region. This female specimen matches Wieser’s description except for the tail which narrows at the end and there is no obvious capsule.

Thalassoalaimus montemari (Wieser, 1953)

This individual was collected at Coihuin, Los Lagos region (Photo taken with x100 oil immersion). Wieser (1953) described the species based on females, thus this male might be a different species, but it does not fit the description of T. macrosmaticus. There is no evidence of the precloacal supplements described for other species of the genera. In addition the spicule is very simple straight rod.

Thalassoalaimus sp.1.

This individual was collected at CIMAR station 21 at a depth of 163 m  in the channel between the islands of Chaulinec and Chulin in the Chiloe inland sea, Los Lagos region. This female specimen has been placed in the genera Thalassoalaimmus. The two circles of cephalic setae are on the same level, the ring of four subcephalic setae are prominent and placed slightly less than one head diameter posterior to the cephalic setae. The amphid is not discernible. The tail is long with the first quarter conical and the rest cylindrical bordering on filiform.
